Vision 2010Set the City on the map • By 2010 be considered the premier distance running festival in North America run over a week in late May • Over 50% of the runners from outside the National Capital region providing a tourist impact of an estimated $30 million • Week creates Ottawa buzz like no other event in the Capital radiating across both Ontario and Quebec and throughout Canada and the US

  3. Vision 2010Participation for all • Running festival caters to all abilities from elites to walkers, men and women, old and young. Encourages health, fitness and fun. • Weekend events includes several youth targeted activities to re-enforce the benefits of a healthy lifestyle • 10k and marathon provide a stage where Canada's best runners can, on home soil and with financial support, face some of the worlds top competitors. • Event organizers are considered the voice of the running community in Ottawa and seen as a center of excellence in event organization

Vision 2010Paying back • Provide sponsors a stage where they can give back to the community, raise their profile provincially and nationally, and get their employees involved in an event and sport unlike anything else • The events act as a catalyst for numerous charitable organizations to raise funds for both local and national causes • Race Week organization is fiscally responsible and gives back to the community as best possible with a focus on helping others get physically fit. • Event is involved in a year round physical activity program for youth. • Event provides a venue for Athletics Canada to meet with all Canadian events and discuss matters of policy and best practice

  5. Vision 2010Festival Week • Tuesday: Race Week Warm-up golf tournament for "charity“ • Wednesday: City of Ottawa sponsorship appreciation and councilors reception. "Last Chance" 4km training run and carb fest • Thursday: Expo opens • Friday: Expo continues and speakers series opens; afternoon high school mile and elementary school half mile • Saturday: Main event MDS Nordion 10K - live local broadcast; also includes the MDS Nordion 5K • Sunday: Main event the ING Ottawa Marathon – national tape delayed broadcast : also the ING Ottawa Half marathon plus a fun family

Vision 2010Goals • 40,000 runners in the weekend. • Live local televised coverage of the MDS Nordion 10k • 90 min tape delayed nationally televised coverage of the ING Ottawa Marathon • Establish the 10k as the best non-marathon event in Canada. • Establish the marathon as a world class event that is second only to the big 5/world majors. • $2M/yr raised for charity • Increase spectator participation to over 100,000. • Grow the expo to sell out the largest conference area in Ottawa (42,000 sq. ft)

  8. Demographics • Over 50% of all participants are between 30 and 49 years old. The average age is 35.2 (3 years younger than in 2005). • Participants are 56% women • The largest gender/age groups are: • Women 30 – 34 yrs (8%) • Women 40 – 44 yrs (8%) • Women 19 & Under (7.9%) • Men 19 & Under (7.7%) • There were 47 countries represented among all race participants. • Roughly 80% of participants came from Ontario, while 18% came from Quebec.
