Self-Care… • Encourage staff to practice it • Encourage use of PTO or appropriate time away from work – • Important to try to avoid burnout • Encourage staff to maintain boundaries, take time for other parts of their lives Consider:Do you overtly or subtly reward or applaud the ‘workaholic’ who doesn’t take time off, is always available via text/email, even on days off?
Model Desired Behavior • Supervision is an opportunity to model the behavior you want service providers to exhibit with consumers/clients • Supervisor as Trustworthy • Physically & Emotionally Safe environment • Collaboration between Supervisor & Staff
Staff Satisfaction, Growth, Retention • Consistent supervision is an opportunity to learn about staff satisfaction • Promote professional growth, development • Strengths-based approach – celebrate milestones/achievements; acknowledge what is going well
