  2. Objectives • Various ways partnerships can be secured • How to best utilize partners to benefit students

  3. About our Specialized Secondary Program • MCHS Biomed/Biotech Program and Center • 4-year whole school program

  4. Biomed/Biotech “Program Major” • Prepares students for a wide range of careers in the medical, research, and biotech fields. • Courses include: Human Biology (UC approved & articulated with Miramar Community College) and Biotech/Internship • Combines academics with a hands-on, problem-based curriculum. • Students learn about the newest biological discoveries and various medical and research careers.

Professional Development Programs • TSRI Teacher Seminars and Summer Training (Graduate students are a good resource) • Biotechinstitute / BIO conference • Pharmacology in Education Program Local resource: San Diego Science Alliance sdsa.org CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells growing in a bag… and producing human anti-cancer antibodies

MCHS Biotech Company Products We will produce: • Educational Biotech kits with donated supplies • Similar to commercially available kits • Include teaching materials & activities • High School, Middle School, Elementary • Plasmids (DNA) to stock the AMGEN-Bruce Wallace Biotech kits at Miramar college

  20. Colleagues • Teachers at other schools • Share best practices • Share donations: Reagents/consumable supplies Ryan and Malinda, teachers at nearby schools
