  6. After today… • Students should be able to describe the process of trans-generational learning. • Students should be able to demonstrate their reading comprehension. • Students should make connections between their lives and elements of culture.

  7. Culture • Culture is all the things that make up a people’s entire way of life. • Jokes we tell / Food / Skills / ideas about right & wrong / idea of beauty

  8. QUESTION OF THE DAY Who or what is the #1 influence on an individual’s culture????

  9. Trans-generational learning • We inherit our culture from our parents and grandparents. • A mother teaching her daughter to milk goats.

  10. Trans-generational learning • In turn we will pass our culture on to our children. • A man taking his son for his 1st haircut.

  11. Class work • Open your notebook and divide your paper down the middle. Create a list of 5 individual words or short phrases that come to mind when I say “family”. Write them down on the LEFT hand side of your list.

  12. Class work • Read “Social Organizations” section from page #13 to #14. • Write 5 facts that you remember from the reading. Please put these on the RIGHT hand side of your list.

  13. Connect • Can you make any connections between your personal list and the list created from the book? Why or why not?
