2009-2010 Calendar Sept. 28 – ITBS Jan. 6 – Report with 1st semester grades Jan. 20 – Writing Assessment Feb. 5 – 3rd 9 weeks progress report Feb. – March – High School Registration March 22 – 3rd 9 weeks report cards go home April 14 – 23 CRCT April 28 – 4th 9 weeks progress reports May – CRCT math and reading results, remediation May 14 – 8th grade dance May 28 – Final Report Card End of May – 1st of June – CRCT Retest
8th Grade Dance Friday, May 14th (7-9:30) Tickets $15.oo (pre-sold – cash only) Semi formal (no blue jeans, tennis shoe, tuxes or limo’s) No media, lunch fines, or book fees No office/bus referrals (CRCT to Dance)
High School Registration All students will register for high school based on address in computer. FSMS feeds into CHHS, LSHS, & DCHS (IB students attend DCHS but will begin registration process at home school) High schools use a block schedule with 4 classes first semester and 4 classes 2nd semester. March 11 (tentative date) – Freshman Expo at all high schools – Foreign Language will not be an option for 9th graders (Exception- those students that have completed 2 years in middle school)
High School Registration • All 9th graders will take: • Literature, Biology, American Government, Math I • Regular or Honors which is based on Reading ITBS score of 75% or higher , academic performance ,and teacher recommendation • Health/PE * • Many 9th graders will take: • Math I Support • Based on a rubric provided by county • Some 9th graders will take: • CCAE (Coordinated Career Academic Education Program) • Based on ITBS reading score of 25% or lower, excessive absences, failure in an academic class – provides study skills, academic support, career path information • Students may pick remaining electives • Band, Chorus, Computers and more
Chapel Hill High School Registration • We will send academic recommendations to CHHS • March 23rd 6-8pm (Tentative date and time) – CHHS 8th grade advisement • Parents and students will meet with his/her advisor and develop his/her 9th grade schedule. It is critical that you and your student attend this advisement session.
Lithia Springs and Douglas County High School Registration • First part of March - LSHS administrators hold orientation for students at FSMS during school day. High school planning materials will be given out • A draft copy of registration card will be sent home with academic recommendations marked. You and your student are to discuss electives and mark on draft copy and return to school. • Middle of March – Actually registration card will be sent home for your signature. Please return promptly because they will be due to LSHS about 5 days after they are sent home.
Douglas County Promotion Criteria(Student/Parent Handbook pg. 12) A student my be considered for retention if: Absences total 15 days or more Final grades include failures in any two or more of the core academic areas of reading, language arts, science, social studies, math or foreign language Performance indicates that additional remediation is needed in two or more core academic areas (A combination of any of the above may show greater need for retention than when only one indicator is present.)
State Promotion Criteria(Student/Parent Handbook pg. 12) No student may be promoted to the ninth grade except as provided below: • No eighth grade student shall be promoted to the ninth grade if the student does not meet expectations on the reading and math sections of the CRCT (defined by Office of Student Achievement in accordance with O.C.G.A. 20-2-281) AND • Meet promotion standards and criteria of Douglas County • Absences total 15 days or more • Final grades include failures in any two or more of the core academic areas of reading, language arts, science, social studies, math or foreign language • Performance indicates that additional remediation is needed in two or more core academic areas
