Spiritual Authority • What is Authority in the Spirit ?? • The Centurion in the Bible understood Authority very well, when he spoke to Jesus in: • Mat 8:8-10 (ISV) The centurion replied, "Sir, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I, too, am a man under authority and have soldiers under me. I say to one 'Go' and he goes, to another 'Come' and he comes, and to my servant 'Do this' and he does it." • Verse 10 When Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to those who were following Him, "Truly I tell you, not even in Israel have I found this kind of faith! • From this we can see that Spiritual Authority and Faith is one and the same thing !! Without Faith, you won’t have Authority in the Spirit either.. • NOTE: • Authority doesn’t ask • Authority doesn’t beg • Authority COMMANDS !!! • Jesus didn’t tell us to ask God for example, to cast out Demons • Jesus send us out to DO IT ourselves…!! • Mar 16:15-18 (ESV) And He said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My Name they will cast out demons; they willspeak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." • Mar 3:14-15And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach, And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils

Spiritual Authority • Jesus’ Authority while He was on earth (in the Flesh) • Jesus received His Authority from God His Father when He was Baptized… • Mat 3:16-17 And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. • Jesus’ authority came from being Declared by God His Father – as being the Only Begotten Son. • God confirmed this, on the Mount of Transfiguration: • Luk9:35 (ESV) And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him!" • And this Authority gave Him the Power over Demons, Sickness, the nature & weather (Mat 14:25, Mark 4:39), and even Death (Lazarus – Joh 11) • Mar 2:9-11 (ESV) Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your bed and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic-- "I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home." • Mar 1:27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority!He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him." • Joh5:8-9 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked…

Spiritual Authority • Jesus’ Authority NOW (today) From Heaven • Joh3:12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? • Jesus tried to explain to Nicodemus that there are things on the earth, and there are things in Heaven, and we have to believe both realms, otherwise we will have difficulty in living a full life in the Spirit !!! • ‘Cause Jesus had to go away – back to His Father (in Heaven)– in order for Him to give us the Holy Spirit. • AND NOW: Through the Holy Spirit – He is In us – and with us and makes Himself known to us • Joh14:16-20 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you…. • Joh 14:21 Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." • Paul writes in Ephesians – that he prays for them that they might be able to SEE into the Spirit – what is the HOPE of the Glorious Riches of Christ being in the Spirit !! • Eph 1:18-20 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised him from the dead and seated Him at his right hand in the heavenly places, • Eph1:21-23 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Spiritual Authority • Jesus’ Authority now From Heaven (continue…) • Heb1:1-3 God, who at sundry (various) times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; • Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent Name than they. • THUS: Jesus’ Authority have increased from living in the flesh to being in the Spirit. • It was thus necessary for Him to ascend into the Spirit. From there He can now be the HEAD of the WHOLE CHURCH – HIS BODY on the earth • Col 1:17-20 And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross. • Thus as Jesus explained it in John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you (for your benefit) that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. • John 14:12-14 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in My Name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in My Name, I will do it.

  6. Spiritual Authority • Authority given to the Church • It all started from Peter’s confession of who Jesus was: • Mat 16:15-17He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. • Mat 16:18-18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." • Here at this very moment, the Authority of the Church was already decreed and declared by Jesus…!! • BUT: The Church only came into being after Jesus died on the cross (i.e. The Church was born when the Roman soldier pushed the sword into the side of Jesus to make sure that He was dead – and water and blood came out) • And then the Church was recognised by all after the pouring out of the Holy Spirit and Peter’s first sermon explaining what had just happened…in Acts (see Acts 2) • Act 2:46-47 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people.And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Spiritual Authority • Authority given to the Church (Continued…) • NOTE: The Authority to Bind and Loose on earth (that Jesus promised in Mat 16:18), is the same Authority God intended in Gen 1:26-28 already for man to have on earth. • That is: To have Dominion – and Subdue everything in the same manner that God would have – was He living on the Earth Himself… • Jesus came to demonstrate to us that Authority & Dominion - God initially intended for Adam & Eve to walk in - during the 3 and half years He walked on the Earth. • Gen 1:26-28 And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. • THUS: to Bind and to Loose means: • What do you Allow or Permit to happen on the earth (Negative or Positive) • And what do you Deny - say NO – to on the earth (Positive or Negative) • And it shall be according to your words !!! • ‘Cause Whatever you allow on earth, will be allowed in Heaven to be lawful, and whatever you deny on earth, shall not be allowed in Heaven either !!! • Psa8:4-6 What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest him? For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: • And that in a nutshell - is the Full Authority of the CHURCH on the earth today !!!

  8. Spiritual Authority • My Authority as a Spirit Filled Son of God • Mat 28:18-21 (ESV) And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." • Jesus has given us our Authority the day He has ascended into Heaven. • BUT: Each one of us has to receive it by Faith. And that only happens once we have received Jesus into our lives and He then Fills us with His Holy Spirit. • THUS: When you are a baptised, born again child of God, you need to be Filled with the Holy Spirit also, to receive your Authority from Jesus (The Power - Acts 1:8) • Gal 3:23-24 (ISV)Now before this faith came, we were held in custody and carefully guarded under the law in preparation for the faith that was to be revealed. And so the law was our guardian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. • Gal 3:25-26 But now that this faith has come, we are no longer under the control of a guardian. For all of you are God's children through faith in Christ Jesus. • Gal 3:27 Indeed, all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. • Gal 3:27 (ESV)For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. • THUS: With Christ being the HEAD of the church, we as members of His Body / The Church, have to now ENFORCE that Authority of Jesus on the Earth – through the HELP and Guidance of the Holy Spirit !!! • eg: See Paul’s ministry: 1Cor 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of POWER (Authority) • Other scriptures you can read: Joh 14-16, Rom 8, Eph. , Col. , Gal. & Rev. 21-22 ******** A M E N ********
