  1. Bike-Share @ LSU Promoting campus sustainability and Easy Streets

  2. OurMission Establish bicycle rental stations at the outer edges of campus that will encourage automobile commuters to park further from campus, ride a bicycle to class, and reduce traffic on typically congested campus streets.

Alabama (est. 2006) -7am-7pm M-F -8-5 Sat-Sun -3 day rental -$10/yr -36 cruiser bikes • Emory (est. 2007) -8am-12am M-Sun -1-day rental -FREE -Bikes provided by Fuji brand • Duke(est. 2007) -10am-5pm M-F -5-day rental -FREE -130 mountain & hybrid bikes • Kent State (est. 2010) -Single-day (FREE) to week long ($) rental -TREK Hybrid bikes • Other Universities (almost 90 in U.S.): -New York University -University of Alaska-Anchorage -Samford University -North Carolina State University -University of California Irvine -University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) -University of Illinois -University of Oregon

Funding • NYU “Green Grants support projects that improve operational environmental performance, foster eco-literacy and community engagement, advance applied research goals, and demonstrate the viability of best practices and technologies.” • b. Emory “Fuji University is a new project by the Fuji Bicyclesbrand which aims to assist colleges and universities around the U.S. with their sustainability objectives. Together with school administrators, Fuji hopes to reduce automobile dependence and promote a healthy lifestyle of cycling and walking on and around campuses.” • c. Georgia Tech $50,000 grant “The Ford College Community Challenge (Ford C3) is an initiative that works with our long-time partners in higher education to catalyze student-led, community-building projects that address local needs. Ford C3 is supported by Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services.”

  5. LSU Student Government -Possibly up to $5,000 donation • Optional Student Fee -Only for those who are willing to participate • LSU UREC -Already provides Fuji single speed bikes -Good start toward Fuji University participation

  8. Equipment and Maintenance • Once the bikes are present on campus there will be need of upkeep and preservation of the bikes as well as their check out stations. By examining other universities policies and practices we hope to then form a plan on how to properly outfit and maintain the bikes. • We are currently seeking advice and feedback from other universities on their practices and policies of their bike share programs.
