  2. What Is the Meaning of the Sacraments? Sacrament: an outward sign of an invisible grace This terms applies to Christ Jesus, to the Church, and to the Seven Sacraments.

  3. What Is the Meaning of the Sacraments? The sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us. The visible rites by which the sacraments are celebrated signify and make present the graces proper to each sacrament. They bear fruit in those who receive them with the required dispositions (CCC 1131).

  4. Efficacious Signs of Grace Efficacious: capable of producing a desired effect Grace: a participation in the life of God THE SACRAMENTS REALLY WORK!

  5. Instituted by Christ The sacraments are rooted in Jesus and traceable to him. The same Jesus who ministered to people on earth 2000 years ago is present today in the sacraments.
