  2. Healthy Emotions • Part of being mentally healthy is being able to express the following emotions in a constructive way. • What does constructive mean?

  3. LOVE • A strong affection or deep concern for another person is love. • Express through: • Touch • Words • Actions

  4. Kinds of LOVE • Friendship • Family • Marriage • Respect • Materialistic * Realize the difference between obsession, infatuation and LOVE

  5. Obsession • Compulsive fixation on a person, feeling, idea etc. • Unhealthy emotion • Does not equal love • Can lead to harm towards self or others

  6. Infatuation • Feelings are extremely intense • Miserable when we are not with the person we care about • Jealous • Has more to do with hormones than with love • More interested in your feelings than the feelings of another

  7. LOVE • Unconditionally care for the person • Still love them even when you’re angry at them • Do not experience unhealthy levels of jealousy • You know everything about the person and still love them for their faults • You care more about their feelings than your own

  8. ANGER • Strong feeling of displeasure that can range from annoyance to complete fury. • Frustration • Hostility • Defense • Rage

  9. How should you deal with Anger? • Write down your feelings • Talk to someone • Punch a pillow • Take a deep breath • DO NOT ignore it • DO NOT let it take control of you • Anger only feeds anger • YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR ANGER. IF YOU COULDN’T YOU WOULD ALWAYS BE ANGRY!

  10. FEAR • You feel fear when you believe you are in danger • Physical reaction • ANXIETY- a fear of the unknown. Makes you feel nervous, and ill at ease • Causes of anxiety or fear include: stress, repeating an unpleasant experience

  11. How should you handle your fears? • Talk about it • Face your fear • Plan ahead

  12. GRIEF • Deep sorrow caused by the loss of someone or something • Natural emotion, not negative. • 5 stages of grief • Denial • Anger • Bargaining • Depression • Acceptance • giraffe in quicksand

  13. GUILT • A feeling of having done something wrong • Can be positive or negative emotion • Can lead to depression • How?
