  1. LCM Amazing Technology Race

  2. How Do We Begin This Journey • We will build upon our recent Personal Learning Network training by using tools to improve Communication and Collaboration with our Administrators. • Since PLNs are a collection of people we communicate and exchange information with, we will use technology to prepare us to build PLNs on our campuses and in our departments. • We will use PLNs to learn as part of a global community. • We will design District and campus initiatives for Professional Development, support, and group communications.

  3. What is the Amazing Technology Race? • Four stations (Journeys) for each team to complete in various locations on the Lamar State College-Orange campus. • You will learn how to use a variety of applications and complete tasks during each journey. • An opportunityfor brainstorming and collaboration to develop ideas for integrating technology in your daily activities. • Each team is a cohort group which will share technology and serve as a mentor for technology infusion efforts on our campuses to engage students.

  4. Participation • All team members must participate in each journey. Each team member must be the “leader” of at least one task with input from all team members. • Don’t let the team members who are most familiar with technology do everything. If you already know how to do a task, coach someone else on your team who doesn’t (tell them what to do… don’t do it for them!) • The purpose is for everyone to get hands-on experience! • This is a collaborative journey, if you find resources you think others would find valuable, post them on the Wiki.

  5. Instructions • Follow the clue (given to you by a race coordinator) to your first journey. NOTE: The clue cards are only a summary of the journey and does not contain step-by-step instructions. • Complete the challenge by following the directions found online in the Amazing Technology Race wiki. • After completing the journey, a race coordinator will provide you with a completed stamp for your team’s passport. • Get your clue to the next journey (envelopes are labeled by team #... be sure to get the right one!) • Repeat! • Complete as many challenges as you can in the allotted time.

Teams Team 5: Stacey Brister Carie Broussard Todd Loupe Team 6: Jim Armstrong Mitzi Conn Kim Cox Team 7: Kayla Casey Donna Fong Steve Lisbony Team 1: Pauline Hargrove Michael Ridout Julia Dickerson Team 2: Greg Perry Leah LeBouef Buffy Knight Team 3: Sherry Combs Terri Estes Keith Lindsey Team 4: Kathy Finch Kristy Brown Amanda Hallman

  7. What is the Amazing Race? • The Amazing Race is a reality television game show in which teams of people race around the world in competition with other teams. Trying to finish the journey first to win the race.

  8. Discussion • • Define the importance for creating a PLN in your campus/department. • • Describe the benefits associated with participating in a PLN. • • Identify and analyze the different types and uses of Web 2.0 tools.

  9. Living the Training • Our Administrative team will help our teachers understand how to function in a collaborative Professional Learning Community. • Encourage the use of technology tools such as Skype, Twitter, Wikis, Blogs, and iGoogle for building Professional Learning Communities. • Encourage the use of online collaboration tools (wikis, blogs, Google Docs, calendars, etc.) • Ask each teacher to prepare at least one lesson collaboratively with another teacher.

  10. Team Reflections Page • At the end of the allotted time, each team will fill out a “Reflections” page on the Amazing Technology Journey Wiki.
