  2. Birthdate and Birthplace • Fats Waller was born in New York City, New York. • Waller was born on May 21, 1904.

  3. Instrument(s) • Waller was a singer, and also played two instruments. • He played the organ and the piano. • Plus, he was also a bandleader and a composer.

  4. Influence • The death of Waller’s mother, Adeline Waller, caused him to moved into the house of the pianist, Russell B.T. Brooks. • During his lifetime, he met James P. Johnson, who influenced him to do piano rolls. • Waller started to sing and play instruments at the age of fifteen. James P. Johnson

Interesting Facts • Waller died of pneumonia while traveling back to New York on a train. • Waller’s father hoped Waller would respond and follow a religious calling. • Waller’s longest composition is London Suite, an extended series of six pieces. • He made the film “Stormy Weather” in Hollywood with Lena Horne and bill Robinson.
