OVERVIEW OF THE AIDS & FOOD SECURITY SITUATION IN MALAWI -- LINKS AND KEY RELEVANT POLICIES • The MGDS Paper (2006-2011) highlights HIV and AIDS as a key cross-cutting issue • The HIV/AIDS Research Strategy for Malawi (2005-2007) acknowledges that there are gaps in existing knowledge about HIV/AIDS that would inform policy, practice, and HIV/AIDS-related interventions.

  3. OVERVIEW OF THE AIDS & FOOD SECURITY SITUATION IN MALAWI -- LINKS AND KEY RELEVANT POLICIES • The agriculture policy emphasises food availability in quantity & quality, at affordable price to all people in Malawi • Strategy: Through improved agricultural productivity, livestock, and fisheries

  4. AIDS & FOOD SECURITY SITUATION • National level food security situation improved last season and is promising to be the same this year. However, there is still worry about nutrition levels especially among people living with HIV and AIDS and other vulnerable groups.

WHAT IS RENEWAL MALAWI DOING NOW? • Communications • Strengthened NAP Membership by broadening representation from other sectors and by changing NAP leadership • Promoted Renewal Agenda within and outside Malawi through paper presentation, network meetings, and participation in international events

WHAT RENEWAL MALAWI INTENDS DOING IN THE FUTURE • Undertake more national research projects within the agreed priority areas • Intensify research dissemination and information sharing forums • Capacity development of researchers in relevant areas • Participation in regional research projects • Policy advocacy based on research results
