Reading and Writing • Reading and writing are key to success in AP Biology. • Each lab will be turned in with a lab essay. Don’t worry, it is less than one page • You will learn to write in a technical manner.
What is Happening to Our Oceans? • Current research shows a decline in numbers of upper predators in ocean waters. • Current ocean temps are on average 1-4 degrees higher than a century ago. Keep in mind, this does not seem like much, but we are talking about a very large pool • Small fish and zooplankton populations are down.
Areas of Ocean Concern • Salt Marsh Decline • Mangrove Damage and Decline • Shark and other predatory fish decline. • Number of shark attacks is up. Why do you think this is so?
What might be happening to our ocean’s productivity? What is the human influence?
Just A Reminder.... Oceans are the #1 source of water entering the water cycle. They help moderate air temperature. They provide food for millions and support the global economy.
