  4. 2. What is my role? • Pass along information • Career planning & preparation • Keep current labour market information • Post secondary programs & admission process • Scholarships, awards & bursaries • Job postings/volunteer opportunities

How can I help your child? • www.burnsviewsecondarycareercentre.weebly.com • Inform them what the options are for after graduation • One to one meetings to talk about options • Reminders of deadlines – on an ongoing basis • Keep information current and pass along everything relevant • Set up informational interviews with industry professionals

  6. 4. How can your children help themselves? • Put in the time & effort • Start early – don’t procrastinate • Ask for help • Talk to people in the field • Have realistic conversations about expectations with parents & professionals • Research & visit schools and programs

  7. 5. How can you help your child? • Have your child CC you on any correspondence with a post secondary institution • Have a conversation about plan B & plan C • Talk about career path • Look into the admission requirements yourself • Help your child get organized

Apply BC-application service of BC www.applybc.ca • Apply BC is an online registration for almost every BC public post secondary institutions (universities no longer accept paper applications) • Create an account you can access again later • Apply to several institutions at the same time. But you will need to select a faculty and a back up faculty incase you do not meet the GPA for admission • Get instant notification your application has been received by the intended school • You will need a credit card to pay the application fee which can cost $40+
