  2. Animals: • Green Monkey: Green Monkeys are originally from West Africa. They came to Barbados 350 years ago. • Mongoose: There are more than 30 types of Mongoose. They can range from 1-4 feet long. • Red-Footed Tortoise: The Tortoise has red, Yellow, and orange markings on its face. It is called the Red Footed Tortoise because of the red tinton its limbs. The Tortoise can live 40-50 years.

  3. Landforms: • Miami Beach: It is ranked 1st out of all of the beaches in Barbados. • Mount Hillaby: It is the tallest mountain in Barbados at 340 miles high. • Mount Dover Beach: At miles high, it is the 2nd highest mountain in Barbados.

  4. Culture: • The influence of the English on Barbados is a lot more noticeable on this island than other islands in the west indies. • Citizens there are officially called Barbadians. • An important event there is the Crop over.

  5. Cities: • Some of the Cities here are… • Bridgetown • Speighstown • Oistins

  6. History • Some believe that the Amerindians settled here from Venezuela around 1623 B.C. • The Arakaks were the people after the Ameridians. The Arakak people were conquered by the Caribs in 1200. • The Carib people were Cannibals.

  7. Popular Authors: • George Lamming wrote the novel In the Castle of My Skin. It is a novel of West Indians literature. • Karen Lord wrote the Novel Redemption In Indigo.

  8. Government: • Type of government: Democratic • A political form of government in which governing power is derived from the people.

  9. Facts: • The Capital of Barbados is Bridgetown. • Their official language is English. • Rihanna is from Barbados
