  2. How a Tornado Starts Tornado Tornadoes usually come from a part of the storm that is low to the ground – “ The Wall Cloud” A wall cloud is connected to a big storm cloud called a cumulonimbus cloud.

  3. Updrafts cause cumulus (puffy white clouds that have dark bottoms) to grow into bigger clouds called cumulonimbus clouds. These can grow up to 50,000 feet high. When they hit the stratosphere it acts like a ceiling and forces the cloud to spread sideways and form an ANVIL shape.

Mobile Homes – Trailers – Campers Are Dangerous Places to Be Mobile Homes are easily damaged or destroyed in a tornado BE PREPARED BEFORE A STORM HITS Make plans NOW to stay with a friend or relative If a tornado is approaching you are safer to go outside and lie down in a ditch….cover your head and neck with your hands.

  15. Don’t Forget About Your Pets Make sure your pets have ID tags. If they get separated from you they can be returned home. Put them on a leash or in a carrier Pets are NOT allowed in shelters. Make sure you have a safe place for them to stay at too.
