  18. Alabama Happenings Army uses 1838 Fort Mims battle for modern lessons MOBILE -- Almost two centuries after hundreds of soldiers, settlers and Creek Indians died at Fort Mims, Army troops wandered the rural scene of the battle earlier this month as a training exercise in planning and tactics. The soldiers were members of a Fort Rucker class studying to become warrant officers. "It's a chance for them to study something in a textbook and then come to the actual site and look over the area and see where this took place, how each side handled things and what could have been done different," said Chief Warrant Officer Chris Janis, one of the instructors.

  19. Alabama Attractions 'Sagging pants' bill passes House: Drooping 3 inches past waist would cause fines in Montgomery The House of Representatives approved a bill Thursday that would allow Montgomery County to fine individuals wearing sagging pants that expose undergarments. Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, sponsored the legislation, which applies to pants worn in public that hang three inches below the waist. If enacted, juveniles charged under the law would face fines of up to $100; adults would face fines of $150. In lieu of the fine, juveniles could be sentenced to 20 hours of community service; adults could face 40 hours of community service

  20. About Me

  21. . Wreckage of crashed helicopter recovered off Alabama coast MOBILE -- U.S. Coast Guard officials said Thursday that they have recovered the wreckage of a helicopter that crashed into the shallow waters of Mobile Bay, but it did not contain the bodies of three missing crewmembers.

  22. Alabama football: Lacy to miss spring TUSCALOOSA -- Suspensions, injuries and a few early departures will leave a few Alabama football players sidelined when spring football practice opens Friday. Include Alabama's top returning rusher to that list. Rising junior Eddie Lacy's turf toe surgery will keep him out of all 15 spring practices, coach Nick Saban said. Reserve offensive lineman ArieKouandjio will all also miss the spring after knee surgery.

  23. NCAA basketball tournament -- Bama in Big Dance: Tide to face Creighton in Midwest Regional TUSCALOOSA -- There were no live television cameras in the Alabama locker room as anxiety filled the space. Just the team, a television, and mounting tension saw three NCAA tournament brackets filled without the Crimson Tide. Surely, they'd done enough, right?

  24. Alabama football: Tide OL Jones shifts to center TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama Outland Trophy winner Barrett Jones opened spring practice at a new position -- one of many new looks for the defending national champions next season. Coach Nick Saban stressed Friday that it's a new team with several job openings. Alabama lost a group of stars that includes at least four projected first-round NFL draft picks.
