1. Phoenix Rising Ji Young Park October 26, 2010 STRUGGLES Nyle tried to read to Ezra and he seems to not be listening nor interested. TENSION: Nyle can’t spend time with Muncie and can’t tell Muncie about Ezra and Mrs. Trent because Muncie is scared of the nuclear power plant. Muncie thinks evacuees are mutants. RISK & DANGER The nuclear plant fallout might cause sickness or death. PROBLEM (CONFLICT): SOLUTION (TURNING POINT/RESOLUTION): Nyle is worried about Ezra and Mrs. Trent dying in the room. Nyle first didn’t want to take care of Ezra but then she reads to him and starts to rake care of Ezra’s physical needs because she sees Mrs. Trent is exhausted. Nyle and Ezra are like brothers and sisters, they joke around. Now Nyle believes Ezra must be alive. She has a crush on Ezra. Nyle tells Ezra to fly away and start over. Helping people in need taught Nyle to care about other again. She learned to overcome fear. (TRANSFORMATION) x ENDING (CLOSURE/LEARNING): Beginning (Goal): Fallout form the nuclear power plant has caused Nyle’s community to become sick Nyle will help other evacuees. She doesn’t want more people to die. She wants people to remember Cookshire. Exposition Nyle: girl, 13 Muncie: best friend, girl, 13, small Ripley: bully, boy, 15 Gran: Nyle’s grandmother Ezra: evacuee, 15 Mrs. Trent: evacuee, Ezra’s mom
