  3. College Application Tips • Watch deadlines! - We recommend Christmas, at the latest. • Most colleges want you to apply online. Some will waive fee if you do. • Recommendation request form from Mr. Ruff. • FOLLOW APPLICATION DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!

HALIFAX AREA HIGH SCHOOLSTUDENT CHECKLIST FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS(a minimum of 2 weeks between date submitted to our office and date due is required) Student Name ______________________________________________ College and Campus ______________________________________________ Date Submitted to Guidance (Today’s Date) ___________________ Date Due to College (Early Decision, rolling?) ___________________ STUDENT CHECKLIST, along with all application materials, when completed, should be given to the student’s counselor in an envelope that will be provided. __________1. Application – (circle one) Online or paper or online Common Application   If using Online Common Application (www.commonapp.org) Please list school name. _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________  __________2. Application fee – (circle one) submitted online, check enclosed, or fee waived  __________3.   7. How Do I Request A Transcript? • We MUST have your (blue) signed Transcript Release Form in order to send any of your records. (Do not write college names on form.) 2. Make sure checklist is COMPLETE. 3. Sign the form on the door of the Guidance Office BEFORE you submit checklist.

  8. College Visits • College Visit Form • Seniors are permitted 2 excused days. • Some colleges give fee waiver for visiting. • What are you looking for? • “home” or “sense of belonging”

  9. Financial Aid • Financial Aid Night- Tuesday, November 19 • www.fafsa.ed.gov • Get a pin # for you AND your parent/guardian now. www.pin.ed.gov • Cannot submit form until January 1, 2014. • CSS/Profile – some colleges require

  10. Miscellaneous Information • SAT vs. ACT (See Guidance website for comparison chart) • NCAA Clearinghouse • Scholarships • Check Guidance website frequently, especially in the spring. (Local and National listings) • Scams… Do not pay $$ for scholarships • “Google” scholarships for your personal interests

  11. Things To Remember… • Don’t slack off with your academics – colleges can rescind an acceptance. • Watch deadlines!! • u, idk, i, b/c, r not proper grammar. • PROOF READ!!
