Analyzing Matilde's Character in "The Necklace": Status and Conclusion

This assignment explores Matilde's character in Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace" by using textual evidence. Students will gather key materials, including an open textbook and index cards, and discuss the concepts of ascribed and achieved status. Through targeted questions, students will analyze Matilde's personality traits based on her actions and dialogue with her husband. The focus is on understanding social structures and how they impact character behavior. Each group member will contribute to answering critical questions, culminating in a well-prepared presentation.
