Daily Writing: Forgive 5/20/14 Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: • “When you forgive, you in no way change the past - but you sure do change the future.” ~Bernard Meltzer • “To err is human; to forgive, divine.” ~Alexander Pope Planner: • Due tomorrow: Bring in your favorite poem (or lyrics to a song).

Tuesday: Poetry/Figurative Language • Textbook pg. 626 • Journal title: Communication • Respond to “Discuss It” pg.626 • Discuss with a peer. • Respond to “Write About It” pg. 627 • Add definitions to your notes pg. 630-631. • Read & discuss poems pg. 633-636 • Exit ticket: Finish?s on pg. 637 on a separate piece of paper.

Journal title: My Fav Poem. • What did you like about the poem? • How did the poem make you feel? • What do you think the poem is about? • What might this poem be saying?

  9. Thursday: Poetry/Figurative Language Show me your favorite poem SPLASHED and your 4?s. SHARE! Journal title: My Fav Poem. • What did you like about the poem? • How did the poem make you feel? • What do you think the poem is about? • What might this poem be saying? What is a theme? Can poems have themes? Close reading of “Mentor” by Thomas Murphy. • Splash it. • Read it multiple times. Annotate it.

  10. Thursday: Poetry/Figurative Language Journal title: Mentor • Consider the title of the poem – -- “Mentor” What is a mentor? • Who’s Robert Fancis? Why might a poet dedicate a poem to someone? • What is the speaker in the poem feeling regret for? How do you know? What’s the theme? Journal title: Wheels • What do you think the poem is about? • What might this poem be saying? Turn in your handout.

Friday: Communicate Themes & Self Identity • Discuss “Mentor” & “Wheels.” • In groups, guess the title of the poem… Hint: it’s one word.  • Think.Pair.ShareSPLASH “I’m Alive, I Believe in Everything” • Continue to SPLASH the poems in your packet and answer the questions. You may do this in pairs. Due Tuesday! NO class Monday.
