  2. Settled in and colonized in parts of South Africa in the 17th century. Spoke a form of the Dutch language, Afrikaans, which is a combination of English, German and other South African languages. Religion plays an important part in the lives of most Afrikaners.  The Afrikaners are considered to be 100% evangelized.  About 99% are cultural Christians.  About 50% of these are considered Evangelical. Who are Afrikaners?

  3. While they were controlled by the British, they gained more influence in South Africa. Afrikaners national party took control over South Africa. They supported apartheid (separation of black and white people, preferring the whites) Some were known as Trek Boers. Skilled farmers with little education. Sports such as rugby, cricket, and golf are very popular. They deeply respect their history and traditions. Continued…..

  4. Today, about 3 out of 42 million total population of South Africa identify themselves as Afrikaners. Europeans in SA were responsible for establishing the apartheid. Afrikaners gained control of the government in 1948 and restricted the ability of other ethnic groups What has been their role and influence in south Africa?

They are seen as separate from the other South Africans They have kept strong to their language, Afrikaans, which developed from Dutch The Dutch hated this, seeing it as a corruption of pure Dutch Afrikaners are also known for their prideful attitude toward other Africans HOW HAVE THEY BEEN VIEWED BY OTHER POPULATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA
