Join us for an intensive workshop designed to disseminate technical expertise in the design and deployment of GMPLS-based dynamic circuit networks. Participants will gain hands-on experience building a functional DCS network, covering current control plane architecture concepts, service routing, and more. This workshop is ideal for network engineering personnel and engineering teams focused on implementation and support. Over two days, attendees will engage in practical labs and develop the knowledge base critical for establishing GMPLS-based services in their regions.

Dynamic Circuit ServiceHands-On GMPLS Engineering Workshop Jerry Sobieski Mid-Atlantic Crossroads Presented to Joint Techs Minneapolis, MN Feb 13, 2007
Dynamic Circuit Services Workshop • Purpose: • Disseminate technical expertise in the design and direct deployment of GMPLS based dynamic circuit networks. • Current state of the art Control Plane architecture concepts, issues, and ongoing efforts • Provide practical and hands-on experience building a functional DCS network • Intended Audience: • Network Engineering Personnel • Those responsible for defining regional and/or campus network services and architecture • Engineering teams responsible for implementation and support • Objective: • Enable regional and campus network engineering personnel to set up a GMPLS based DCS test and evaluation facility in their region in order to begin developing engineering and operational knowledge base in these capabilities.
Outline • Day 1 • Overview GMPLS • Lab #1 – Building a GMPLS Experimentation and Evaluation Facility • The DRAGON Software Suite: Software Overview, Installation and Configuration • Lab #2 - Intra-Domain Service Routing and Signaling • Day2 • Review • Inter-Domain Dynamic Services Routing • Lab#3: Inter-domain Engineering and Service Routing • Lab#4: End System access using UNI model. • Other Rlated Topics
Workshop Testbed “Pod” Virtual Label Switching Router- “VLSR” PC Ethernet Switch End System
Inter-Domain Logical Topology Intra-domain ctrl plane Inter-domain ctrl plane Data plane
Other Topics • Multi-layer service routing (Packet / Ethernet / SONET / Lambda / Fiber) • Application Specific Topolgies • Hardware adaptation • Web Services and interdomain topology distribution.
First Run: NyserNet • First workshop: New York in [early] March • Refine the content and gauge lab expertise • Follow on workshops as frequent as monthly • Schedule is wide open • We are looking for interested hosting orgs • Maximum attendees = 12 (four teams) • Need space for 4 days (1 day setup, 2 days workshop, 1 day tear down) • Contact: • Susan Evett at Internet2 • Rick Summerhill at Internet2 • Jerry Sobieski at MAX • http://events.internet2.edu/2007/DCS/ • A more advanced workshop may developed as the basics become more widely deployed • Advanced management, AAA, hardware adaptations, etc.
Experimental Technology • GMPLS protocols continue to evolve • The R&E community’s understanding and experience with DCS continues to evolve • Hardware capabilities are evolving rapidly • Software continues to develop • We are still in the early adopter stage of these technologies (!) We need to create a community of users to mature the core capabilities, operational management, reliability, robustness, etc.
