What were the main weapons and vehicles used during civil war? • Swords : Made in October 1862, swords have a handle and 1 long sharp blade, swords were mainly used by camp guards. • Rifles: Made in 1848, rifles have 1/2 inch lead bullets, rifles are responsible for the over whelming number of battlefield deaths. • Colt revolver: Made in 1851 , colt revolvers are .36 caliber guns, they weigh less than 3 pounds , hundreds and thousands of revolvers were used by confederate and union soldiers. • Cannon: Cannons 1st appeared in America in 1857, they are larger than small arms, made of steel, bronze or iron, there were dozens of different cannons used in the civil war.

  9. How Did the Civil War Affect America's Future? • It helped the United States stay united. • It put family against family. • The civil war helped end slavery. • It gave the us a better understanding of the past.

Who Were the Women That Were Involved in the Civil War? • Women of the union: * Pitched in to find food or care for sick or injured soldiers. * Women of the United States sanitary commission helped improve hospital conditions. * Women disguised as men were sometimes able to join the army. * Jenny Hodges joined the Union army as Albert Cashier. * Sarah Emma Edmonds joined the union army as Frank Thompson.

Who Were the Women That Were Involved in the Civil War? • Confederate women: * Even though women were not allowed to join the army there were women soldiers. * Many confederate women wrote letters pressuring there men to come home. * Loretta Juanita Velazquez joined the army as Harry T. Buford. * Lucy Matilda also entered the army.

  12. Ulysses S. Grant and Stonewall Jackson • Grant • April 7th, Robert E. Lee sent a letter to general Ulysses S. Grant. • Jesse Root Grant, was Ulysses father. • Grant served in the Mexican-American war (1864-1868) with the rank of lieutenant. • Stonewall Jackson • Raised in rural Virginia, Jackson struggled when he began his cadet ship at west point. • After , graduating from the military academy, Jackson earned the rank of 2nd lieutenant. • Jackson often took brief trips to Fort Putnam.
