  1. Facilitator: Dr.Thumrongrut Mungcharoen (MTEC) Members: 1. Mr. Narumit (Millenium Microtech) 2. Mr. Terasart (Direct Organizing Supply) 3. Dr. Sate (Chiangmai University) 4. Mr. Surus (EEI) Secretary: Mr. Akadate (Kasetsart University) Group 1 Engineering design:Technical Aspects

  2. 1. What is the existing utilization of design methods and tools? • From customer requirements • Software tools such as “Engineering Pro”, “CAD/CAM”, others • Drawing by hand… • No specific predefined methods and tools

  3. 2. What general requirements and desires do engineering designers have for their methods and tools? • Customers from USA (esp. California) require“No Hazardous Substances”… specify both ROHS and carcinogen substances (since 2004) • Companies provide lists of materials conforming to the requirement  ask for customers acceptance • New customers: purchase scraps (containing precious metals.. Such as gold

  4. 3. What is the general competence of engineering designers in Eco-design and environmental-related issues? • Can be classified into 3 levels 1. Aware and Ready (but to comply: may increase cost) 2. Aware but not ready 3. Not aware • Product + Packaging

  5. 4. What are engineering designers’ need for eco-design based on their experience? • Please seethe survey results by MTEC Source of news/ information/ knowledge/ assistance (83.5%) Training Course (49.5%) Forum for exchanging news / information/ knowledge/ opinions (43.7%) Financial Support (26.2%) Etc.

  6. 5. What type of Eco-design methods and tools are utilized? • FMEA • Quality control system • Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) • CARs (Corrective Action Report: ISO 9000, ISO 14000) • 3’R (reduce/reuse/recycle), Cleaner Technology • Other tools introduced during the training under “Green Camp project”: QFDE, LCA, DFE Checklists, EcoStrategy wheel, ….
