Mission Statement • “The mission of the Johnson Student Council is to serve as the official voice of the students, and be their beacon for change.  By being transparent with communication, enhancing the sense of community, and implementing targeted initiatives  – the Student Council will ensure that needs of the Johnson student body are represented in matters of both academic and non-academic concern.  The trust we gain from all students - past, present, and future - will be the foundation by which we define success.”

  8. We didn’t forget about you… First off, we hope that many of your questions/concerns have been answered, but look out for responses from each Student Council Chair from 1 of 3 avenues: • Student Council Newsletter • Television Screens • Cornell Business Journal

For example… Josh Lapray- Faculty Chair “Curriculum Review” TanickaDecembre has been doing an incredible job over the past year to perform a curriculum review of core, immersion and elective courses at Johnson. She has been working with alumni, recruiters, and current students at Johnson to identify strengths and weaknesses of our curriculum and decide on what actions must be taken that will best represent the needs and preferences of all. The curriculum review has been an ongoing effort since last year and is currently in the stages of providing everyone at Johnson an opportunity to share their ideas and opinions through small focus group sessions and online surveys. These suggestions have been passed on to the curriculum review committee. Please be aware that your opinions are heard and considered, and also know that changes to curriculum take a considerable amount of time, we thank you for your patience and understanding. We also urge all students to participate in these focus group sessions when invited and to continue to share your suggestions and ideas for improving Johnson’s curriculum.

Jerry Petit-Frere- CMC Chair “Focus on getting more and better companies recruiting on campus, especially west coast/tech firms” The CMC has been working very diligently to ensure that the best companies are coming to campus. As Fred mentioned in an e-mail he sent out in the beginning of March, “The trends are up for internships. Johnson reported 281 postings on JTS for internships this year, up from 202 last year.”

  11. Jonathan Schmitz- Technology Chair “Jconnect and Communication Issues” We’ve received plenty of feedback about JConnect and JMisc. While it is a great system, we think there are some tweaks to be made. Within JConnect, we are aiming to simplify navigation, add breakout room reservation, and streamline communications to lower the reliance on JMisc for mass communication. For those who want to get involved and give additional feedback, we’ll have more details soon.

  12. Tricia Panaguiton- Community Chair • "More Community Oriented Activities. More Social Programming.“ • You may have seen the flyers or heard the buzz about the Johnson Community Dinner initiative. Student Council has already engaged the community through 3 co-hosted dinners including a free hibachi dinner at Kyushu. The next event will be a champagne brunch planned at the Statler Hotel in April. The momentum will continue into Fall Quarter with events hosted by many of Johnson’s most popular clubs so stay tuned for details.

  13. David Schuette- Facilities Chair • “Quality and Service of Atrium Café” • Unfortunately, this has been an issue for years and is beyond our control. However, there are 30 on-campus dining facilities. Some that are nearby Sage include: • -Statler Hall open until 7 pm • -Physical Sciences Building open until 6 pm • -Duffield Hall open until 8 pm • -Martha Van Rensselaer Hall open until 10 pm • -Olin Library- open until 12 am • -Sibley Hall- open until 12 am • -Balch Hall (North Campus)- open until 10 pm • -Hans Bethe House (West Campus)- open until 2 am

  17. Giving is not just about money • Student initiatives are a way to leave a legacy to future students—just like alumni left a legacy for you.

  18. Johnson Legacies Del (Delfina) Bisha Main student leader who energized the students after a poor Business Week ranking. She, and her colleagues, worked closely with the administration to raise the level of energy and involvement. The rankings jumped from #18 in 1996 to #8 in 1998. ImaniGrant Led the initiative to formalize the Forte Fellows group as other powerful initiatives through Women’s Management Council.  She was featured in several interviews showcasing the unique skillset and strength of Johnson’s brand.  Ryan Miller He was a lead admissions ambassador conducting over 50 interviews and over 75 application reads in his 2nd year.He was one of the first non-Park fellows to be asked to sit on the Park Selection Committee (now called the Scholarship Weekend Committee).  Alex Green Alex challenged his classmates at to communicate their concerns on their experience at Johnson.  He facilitated many formal and informal discussions that led to solutions rather than just general complaints.  He was a key influencer in the creation of Jconnect.
