  2. TANU CHOKSI Size The primary difference between support groups and family therapy is that a support group can different in size as per participation whereas in family therapy the size of the family involved will not change whether or not members of the family are actively involved in therapy. http://www.tanuchoksi.in/

  3. TANU CHOKSI Participation Participation in support groups is optional and voluntary. The difference and similarity to family therapy is that if a family agrees for therapy then every member must compulsorily be present when the entire family is required for a session however support groups don’t require every member to always be present for the session to go on. http://www.tanuchoksi.in/

  4. TANU CHOKSI Members The members of a support group do not necessarily know each other and do not need to know each other either for sessions to go on. In family therapy, members obviously know each other, and the dynamic of therapy changes because of members being overly familiar with one another. http://www.tanuchoksi.in/

  5. TANU CHOKSI Motive The primary motive of support groups is to bring together strangers who share common problems and help them establish a common ground to discuss and share their problems with one another. There is no specific problem at hand. family therapy, on the other hand specifically addresses problems at hand. http://www.tanuchoksi.in/

  6. TANU CHOKSI Focus Support groups don’t specifically focus on individuals or specifically target just one individual's problem. Family therapy may focus on just one individual's problem if that is the root cause of what is causing the problems within the family and if that may resolve the overall problem. http://www.tanuchoksi.in/
