  1. Federoff Stages of MEIOSIS

  2. Interphase • Chromosomes Duplicate • Prepares to Divide

  3. Prophase I • Homologous Chromosomes pair up to form a Tetrad • Crossing-over Occurs

  4. Metaphase I • Homologous Chromosomes line up across the center of the cell

  5. Anaphase I • Spindle fibers pull each Homologous Chromosome pair toward opposite ends of the cell

  6. Telophase I and Cytokinesis • Telophase – Nuclear membrane reforms around each cluster of chromosomes • Cytokinesis – Follows Telophase, forming two new cells

  7. Prophase II • Chromosomes (with 2 Chromatids) become Visible

  8. Metaphase II • Chromosomes line up at the center of the cell

  9. Anaphase II • Paired (Sister) Chromatids separate

  10. Telophase II and Cytokinesis • Telophase II – Nuclear membrane reforms • Cytokinesis – 4 new genetically different, haploid cells are produced
