  2. SHOCK • Implies a state of collapse of the cardiovascular system and constitutes a medical emergency. • Every significant injury has the potential to lead to a state of shock • Takes immediate priority during first aid

  3. CAUSES • Hemorrhage (internal or external) • Pooling or stagnation of blood flow • If not treated can lead to irreversible changes.

  4. TREATMENT • If shock does develop you should – • Reassure the athlete in a confident and controlled manner • Position the athlete in view of other injuries (reclining with feet higher them the head) • Control bleeding if present using correct procedures. • Relieve or minimize any pain • Control heat loss (not active warm as it causes blood vessels to dilate a takes blood away from vital organs)
