Study objectives • Examine the role of e-infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities (gVRC) • Provide recommendations to the Commission on further support to this process and its application to other fields (e.g. education, industry, international cooperation, etc.) The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop
Analytical tasks I • Gather relevant information about the impact of e-Infrastructures on gVRC • Review relevant material on the impact of e-Infrastructures and the emergence of gVRC • Sample of 15 e-Infrastructures having an impact on gVRC in different science fields • Survey on the use of e-Infrastructure within research communities • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the gathered information for each of the identified e-Infrastructures • Quantify benefits of e-Infrastructures for gVRC • Qualitative analysis of key processes in creating gVRC • Patterns of use of e-Infrastructures by gVRC The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop
Analytical tasks II • Define a Roadmap to facilitate the creation of gVRC • Scenario approach based on empirical findings • Identify policy gaps and recommend actions • Consolidate and validate the roadmap • Network of Interested Parties and Steering Committee • Feedback on the viability of the proposed roadmap • Awareness raising activities, Workshop The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop
eResearch2020 Structure The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop
Validation and quality measures • Internal peer review of case studies • Validation of case studies with informants • Feedback loop with NIP/SC of Interim Report and Roadmap The role of e-Infrastructures in the creation of global virtual research communities – Final Workshop
