  2. What A Carbon Footprint Is… • A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, and in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc. The carbon footprint is a measurement of all greenhouse gases we individually produce and has units of tonnes (or kg) of carbon dioxide equivalent.

  3. How You Can Calculate It… • http://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx

  4. How To Reduce It At Home… • Turn off things when they are not in use • Turn down the central heating slightly • Do your weekly shopping in a single trip • Hang out the washing to dry rather than tumble drying it • Sign up to a green energy supplier • Fill your dishwasher with a full load

  5. As well as your primary carbon footprint, there is also a secondary footprint that you cause through your buying habits. • Don’t buy bottled water if your tap water is safe • Buy local fruit and vegetables • Reduce your consumption of meat • Buy organic products • Recycle as much as possible
