  7. The Tag Database: recovered tag Satellite tags. A returned tag can be entered as an archival tag to start automatic decoding of archived data. Animal Tagging Support Systems Workshop: ETSS Team
  8. The ARGOS System The data from all satellite tags comes through the ARGOS system. The ETSS team can provide assistance/advice when ordering tags and PTTs. The ETSS team maintain two programs with ARGOS. Automatic downloads: Nightly Weekly All data are archived and backed-up to ensure the integrity of the data for the future. Notify the ETSS team when you have purchased tags under either of the programs so that the team can ensure the timely payment of invoices. Animal Tagging Support Systems Workshop: ETSS Team
  9. External Databases – what’s the difference? There are a number of other databases “out there” that could be used (e.g. eMII/AATAMS). Why don’t we just use one of these? Maturity The CSIRO Database is a mature database with most of the bugs ironed out. Features The maturity of the database now allows us to develop a suite of tools to suit the user’s needs. For example: automatic downloading and decoding of ARGOS data; published geolocation methods; in-house track filtering algorythms; ... Security (CSIRO IP) The CSIRO Tag DB has limited access through user names and passwords that allows your data to be securely stored until you publish it – many other systems are based on an ‘open community’ format with limited scope to quarantine your data from external users.
