The essay topic is always posed as a question • The essay topic is an answer to the question • It is always written in full formal English • An essay has three parts to it: • introduction paragraph • body-paragraphs • conclusion paragraph What is an Essay and how to write one

The Main Body • Has many paragraphs (pgph) • Each pgph is focused on one idea or topic • Pgphs arranged logically • Each pgph must have 1) Topic Sentence 2) Explain with Evidence or Example 3) Your own input or knowledge (SEXY)
Conclusion • clearly restates your basic answer • Summarises your main points • Does not introduce any new points • Expresses your opinion as to which points are more important than others
Carefully read and understand the question • Summarise key points from notes in a plan diagram or plan list (no details on plan) • Write an introduction mentioning all the main categories or points on the diagram or list that you will use to answer the question.
