  2. If a pregnant woman drinks alcoholic beverages and smokes, the alcohol and the smoke not only get into her blood but it also go to her baby’s. While the alcohol andsmoke affect you only temporarily, they can stigmatize the baby for the rest of its life.

SMOKINGEffects on pregnancy • Sudden infant death syndrome • Asthma in children • Learning difficulties • Grow more slowly • Gain less weight in the womb • Linked to preterm labor and other pregnancy complication • Genetic abnormalities including cleft lip of palate, bowel, eyes, ears or spinal cord malformations or problems • Behavioral problems • Colds • Lung problems • Ear infections.

  5. Statistic According to American Lung Association, smoking during pregnancy is associated with miscarriages, still births , low-birth weight, premature birth and infant death. Smoking during pregnancy is estimated to account for 20-30% of low-birth weight babies and about 10% of all infant deaths.

  6. ALCOHOLEffects on pregnancy • A miscarriage • A stillbirth • A low birth weight baby • Slow down babies development • Cause life-long birth defects • Affect the baby’s brain • Cause other physical defects • A baby with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS)

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) • Is a developmental problem • Smaller babies with unusual facial features including small eye-opening, small faces and jaws and thin upper lips • Heart defects • Behaviour problems ATTENTION! The effects of FAS last a lifetime. FAS cannot reserved but it can be prevented by not drinking alcohol when you are pregnant!
