  4. Steps • Tools used: • Quick selection • Transform controls • Outer glow • Spot healing brush • Color overlay • Duplicate • Opacity • Brightness/contrast • Hue/saturation • Color balance • Eraser • Pencil • Liquefy • Forward warp • Bloat • Freeze mask The process I went through to create this self portrait included a lot of resizing, using the selection tool, and editing of colors, saturation, and opacity. • I used the picture of me with the sun and ocean in the back as my background layer, I then modified the colors and saturation to focus on the blue colors. I also liquefied it to increase the size of the sun, as well as give the image an effect as though everything is moving towards the sun (liquefy/warp tool on the clouds). • I then duplicated the background, and deleted everything but me using the quick selection tool. Then I made my self appear darker, and with a white glow. • I inserted the first toad image, deleted everything but the toad, resized it so it would fit perfectly in the sun, and placed it directly in the center of the sun. As to put a lot of emphasis on this toad, as it is my favorite one. • I placed the sailboat in the water, to give it the illusion of actually floating in the water, and I redrew some of the lines in it using the pencil tool. I resized it to make it appear far away. • I then placed the second toad directly above the boat, and resized it to give the illusion of the toad being on the boat. • I placed the sailor hat directly above the toad so it appears that the toad is wearing it. • The last step I took was to add something patriotic, so I placed the image of crossed American flags behind everything except the background, resized them so they didn’t interfere with any of the other images, and decreased the opacity to 10%.

  5. How it represents me • The background represents me because it is me. • The toad is my favorite animal, mostly because I find it funny, I don’t know why. I really wanted my self portrait to focus on my sense of humor, so I made the toad the main focus of the portrait. The placement of the toad also reflects my humor, as the center of the sun isn’t generally where you might place a toad in an image. • The sailboat with the sailor toad further shows my sense of humor, I find a sailor toad to be pretty funny. • The flags are not meant to represent my humor, but rather show the patriotic side of me, but I didn’t want my patriotic side to mask anything else, so I made the flags appear behind everything else.
