  1. Don’t get scammed on the telephone or internet!

    By Ashley Zehner
  2. Getting scammed by Telemarketers is so easy!! Are you on the Sucker list? Scamming telemarketers have a list of people who at one time may have talked to a telemarketer. These people are the first to call. These lists are sold to anyone who wants it and contains all your information. These people are usually very nice and make you stay on the line because you don’t want to be rude to this nice person talking to you. They may seem nice, but they are trained and professional liars.
  3. Older folks are usually targeted especially women Are you lonely? Scammers will usually Stay on the phone with their costumers and Keep talking to them daily, so the victim thinks They have a friend.
  4. Why do we fall for it? Scammers know exactly what they are doing- they make their offer look amazing and hard to turn down This may look like it is too good to be true, because it is. Nothing in life is free. Usually when winning a free trip, if you even get one, you will be stuck with crazy fees such as airfare and hotel fees.
  5. Other scams Charities Investments On tv, there are many offers saying “get rich quick with just one easy phone call” People lose millions yearly due to these schemes. People will do anything for a free vacation, free money, and to help people out. Scammers take advantage of that We all like to help out, so when we see a needy charity such as orphans in Africa or abused puppies, we immediately want to donate. Be careful! If you don’t get any written verification of who you donated to, you just got scammed. These scamming “good causes” make up good names so it seems like a legitimate charity
  6. Save yourself from becoming a victim of telemarketing fraud When you hear this, hang up!! How to handle a scammer Do not make an immediate decision Don’t pay anything for a “free gift” Check state securities if you are making an investment Check unknown businesses with the Better Business Bureau, before you send money. Don’t be scared to hang up the phone Don’t be gulible “You’ve been specially selected to hear this offer” “You’ve won big money in a foreign lottery” “Send money right away to qualify!” “We will charge the shipping to your credit card” “You don’t need any written info about our company or references”
  7. The Golden Rule Telemarketers have to follow this in-depth rule when targeting a customer to make sure they are not scamming them The Rule clarifies specific guidelines so telemarketers cannot find a legal loophole. A couple parts of the Rule Calling times are between 8 am-9pm, any times after this is illegal Telemarketers cannot lie to get your money Before the seller makes the pitch, they are required to tell you who they are working for and their intentions If you ask not to be called, it is illegal for them to call you It is illegal for the company to withdraw money from your account unless there is legal verification specifically from the customer
  8. Just Remember Nothing in life is free. Do your homework before Agreeing to anything Don’t be afraid to say NO! Check with the better business bureau before committing monetarily If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
