OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY • To study the safety and security problems of working women particularly the women employees of the IT sector in India. • To study the social and organizational context of the safety and security of women employed of the IT sector in India. • To recommend appropriate administrative measures and HR practices for addressing the safety and security problems of the women employees of the IT sector with reference to humanitarian logistics.

THE RECENT CASES IN THE INDIAN IT SECTOR In all over India in 2013, 60 cases of attack on women employees of IT Sector have been reported . • 2013 - A 32 yr old BPO employee was raped by co-worker and cab driver in Gurgaon around 7 pm – 9 pm on 7th March 2013. • 2012 – A 21 yr BPO employee was gang raped by 8 men in a moving vehicle near Faridabad. A 22 yr old BPO employee was kidnapped , raped and murdered in Pune • 2010- A 30 yr old BPO employee was gang raped in moving vehicle in Delhi.

  7. RECOMMENDED HR PRACTICES • Training on gender egalitarianism. • Senior leadership engagement / building women leaders. • Networking and Forums for women. • Multiple communication channels.

SUGGESTIONS FOR DAY TO DAY ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS • Transport facilities for women employees engaged in evening and night shifts. • Security guard to escort women employees in office transport. • Women employees must be in groups during night shifts. • Complete record of the transport operators must be furnished from the local police station.

  9. SUGGESTIONS FOR DAY TO DAY ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS • The BPO sector should install a Global Positioning System (GPS) for tracking the position of women employee transport vehicles. • 24 hr helpline must be initiated for women security. • BPO’s must be set up in near locals with adequate police patrolling.
