  1. Springport Math Data Retreat Springport High School Springport Public Schools

SHS Math Goal—2009-2010 We, all teaching staff at Springport High School, will improve student skills in all MME math strands, with special emphasis to strands L2 and G1(Calculations, Algorithms and Figures & Properties, respectively) in order to achieve a 55% proficient level of all students. In addition, 75% of all students in all math classes will score 70% or better on the quarterly assessment and 90% will score 60% or better.

  3. One Objective from the Plan • Objective 1:Teaching for Learning – • Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment • Teachers in all math courses will implement at least four inquiry lessons through out the year.

  4. Steps/Strategies Incorporated • 2 math teachers and principal have been involved in MSU’s Building Capacity for Algebra grant...an Inquiry based learning initiative. • Extensive training for both teachers and principals in inquiry instruction • Continued “check-points” this year • Meet frequently with MSU grad students to develop inquiry lessons, incorporate new technology, etc.

Algebra 2 Fisher and Maher Quarter Assessment Inconclusive – Test was not created very well to collect the data we wanted Semester assessment • Discriminant and the application of it • Graphing inequalities and systems of inequalities • Domain and Range of functions • Solving Literal equations • Completing the Square • Imaginary numbers Conclusion: Continue to work with each other to better instruction so these problems are not issues next year. Probability will not readdress this year because of the closeness of the ACT/MME and the other areas that need to be addressed

  8. What’s Next? Again, See Project Overview “Timeline” • Continued development of high-order TASKS • Teacher to Teacher Observations • Monthly subject area meetings • Student surveys • Quarterly assessment refinement and data collection

  9. In Addition… • Math staff meet to continually create and refine common assignments, quizzes, unit tests, and quarterly assessments. • Need to still find a more “refined” manner in which to collect and analyze quarterly assessment data.
