  1. Comp@P1Shift Move to ACR • Comp@P1 Shifts are taken solo since Aug. 1, 2010 • The shifter stays alone without anyone nearby from the late night though the early morning (night shifts fully alone!!) • Safety of the shifters become concerns, let alone boredom • Computing management and the run coordination reached to an agreement to move all Comp@P1 shifts to ACR • Excellent timing since Comp@P1 shifts were shutdown through Jan. 31, 2011 • Leaves plenty of time to prepare for the shifts • Had discussions with run coordinators and the ACR sysadmins to learn issues and options

  2. Comp@P1 Shift Move to ACR – The Basics • Shift desk: • Each of ACR shift desks currently have four 17” monitors • The run coordinators will make a decision on which desk to be used for Comp@P1 shifts in early Jan. • Access to ACR: • All shifters, AMODs and Computing management personnel need to be trained to obtain access clearance to ACR • Olga tells us Level 4A training is needed • We will confirm this after the shutdown and notify all personnel

  3. Comp@P1 Shift Move to ACR – Shift Computer • Macs are not allowed as ACR • All ACR machines are rack mounted PC with SL5 • Need to verify that all Comp@P1 shift apps work on SL5 • Monitors will also be the standard 17” ones  Some technical issues to be resolved with the optimal T0 Conzole display

  4. Comp@P1 Shift Move to ACR - Network • Two possible solutions • Custom: The SL5 PCs for Comp@P1 will be directly on CERN network outside P1 firewall • Unpreferred solution by the sysadmin and run coordinators • Makes the hot spare switch-over difficult • Setup and access to all current and future Comp@P1 shift URLs much easier  We control the list of URLs via simple bookmarks • Standard ACR inside the P1 firewall • We need to provide all URL’s down to the glory details for sysadmins to add into the proxy database • First list of URLs and the name of the shift machine provided to Sergio • Ale will continue technical discussions further early Jan. to finalize this issue

  5. Comp@P1 Shift Move to ACR - Schedule • Once the desk is finalized and the network issue is agreed upon • We will setup the SL5 machine for Comp@P1 shift in Jan. • Notify all Comp@P1 shifters, AMODs and other computing personnel for training requirements • Comp@P1 shifters will check out the configurations for two weeks starting on Feb. 1, 2011, in ACR • Complete the migration into ACR by Feb. 14
