This document summarizes the HIFI Consortium meeting held in Groningen on October 20-21, 2005, focusing on the high-resolution spectrometer (HRS) status, planning, and progress. Key topics include HRS_H.FM performance, issues regarding gain instability and GaAs ASICs, and the outcomes of TV and EMC tests performed during mid-2005. The document outlines significant achievements, challenges faced in the project, and future action points. Notable results and compliance statuses are discussed, alongside the ongoing optimization efforts for spectral resolution and efficiency measurements.

Agenda • HRS_H FM status • HRS_H-FM performances • HRS_V FM/FS progress • Planning • Issues and risks HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
HRS_H FM • Fully integrated during June and beginning of July 2005 • TV test performed at LAM/Marseille 18-22 July 2005 • EMC test performed at Intespace 25-29 July 2005 • Physical measurement: Intespace 23 August 2005 • Investigations in progress to solve some non conformances HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
TV: results • 4 cycles performed according to the requirements • HRS operates permanently. • Specific testing at 0°, 10°, 20°, 30° and 40°C • Internal temperatures reached compared to the T° of the base plate: • GaAs: +26°C • CMOS: +48°C • Samplers: 14°C • DC/DC converter: 11°C<T<18°C • Three NCR’s issued: • Two bits stuck in the HRS-H correlator (solved) • Problem for cascading the GaAs ASICs (under investigation) • Gain instability (comes from one Converter IF module) HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
TV: set up HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
EMC: results • CE: compliant • CS: compliant • RE: Some minor non conformances • Non conformance in the notch frequencies (TM/TC frequencies). Already known from the QM program • NCR issued • RS: Rather large susceptibility in the measurement range (4-8 GHz) • Two NCR’s issued • RE: above specifications within the notch frequencies for some setting of LO 13-17 GHz. • RS: susceptibility. Strong reduction by shielding the connectors at the input of the HRS. HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
EMC: Radiated Emission • Within the specification except for some frequencies • NCR issued for notch frequencies HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
EMC: set up HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
Band-width measurements Aliasing The effective bandwidth is 235MHz per sub-band, >> The most appropriate sampling frequency is 490MHz Optimization of the spectral resolution HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
Efficiency measurements Efficiency > 75% in the whole band HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
Spectral resolution measurements Line-width = 126kHz instead of 120kHz (theoretical) (with fs = 490MHz and Hanning windowing)
TV test - HRS gain versus temperature Gain drift: 0.028dB/°C
TV test with sampling frequency at 490 MHz Errors at cold temperatures The band shape changes slightly with the temperature At 490 MHz the HRS is functional when the temperature is ≥ 10°C HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
TV test with sampling frequency at 470 MHz Aliasing At 470 MHz the HRS is functional when the temperature is ≥ 0°C HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
HRS_V FM/FS • IF Fully integrated. Will be delivered to CESR end of October • Spare modules: tested. 2 converters may be refurbished at Miteq place, due to the Gain Instability NCR • DC/DC converter ready • ACS: waiting for burn in of samplers for final integration (samplers expected mid of October) HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
Planning • Redelivery of IF #1: 1st of October • Vibrations: 13-14 October • Thermal: 10-12 October • EMC: 1 day during week 38 (19-22 October) • Delivery HRS-H: end of October • Delivery of IF #2: end of October • Environmental test program: November/December • Delivery HRS-H: end of december/beg. of January HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
Issues and Risks • Samplers: LAT nearly finished. DPA to be done soon at CNES • GaAs: LAT nearly finished. Final electrical tests and DPA to be done • CMOS: NCR open. 2 CMOS ASIC’s failed. Investigations in progress. • IF LNA : Susceptibility needs more investigations. External shielding to be discussed. • IF Converters : Thermal mechanical problem needs to be identified and solved by Miteq. • Performances: • In general good performances. Good improvements compared to the QM model for spurious, resolution, flatness. • Power Consumption reduced to ~66W (vs 72W for QM). Accurate measurements to be done. • Complete characterisation of the HRS still to be done. HIFI consortium meeting, Gröningen
