Islam Beliefs/Origins • The Qur’an is a sacred book made up of the teachings of Allah • The Qur’an was given to Muhammad by Gabriel to interpret • Islamic people don’t believe that Jesus was crucified on the cross • Obey only God and his teachings • Worship only God and depend on him for everything

  3. Islam Beliefs/Origins Continued… • 5 Pillars of Islam- • Faith • Prayer • Charity • Fasting • Pilgrimage to Mecca • Lying is forbidden

  4. Roles of Women • They are treated nicely by their husbands • Wear a veil that covers their body. They have to keep it on at all times or else they get their hair shaved off, which will make them wear the veil to cover it up • Islam ensured that women and men are equal • Marries by choice • Allowed to have another job in addition to caring for the family

  5. Roles of Women Continued… • Can be apart of political issues and have a politics-related job • Protects household property • Keep the husband’s secrets and privacy • Can disobey the husband if his request is against the law

  6. Treatment of Animals • All pets should be fed and have a place to sleep • No animal abuse • No using animals as target practice • You can’t separate baby animals from their families • You can’t cut off an animal’s body parts without a good reason • Sick animals should be cared for and treated with kindness and compassion

Hellfire • The Names of Hellfire • “Jaheem– fire – because of its blazing fire • Jahannam – hell – because of the depth of its pit • Ladthaa – blazing fire – because of its flames • Sa’eer – blazing flame – because it is kindled and ignited • Saqar – because of the intensity of its heat • Hatamah – broken pieces or debris – because it breaks and crushes everything that is thrown into it • Haawiyah – chasm or abyss – because the one who is thrown into it is thrown from top to bottom”

  8. Paradise • The afterlife • Can get anything you want • No pain • Can get rich • Never get sick or feel upset • Never hear/experience anything negative

  9. Islam in Afghan Life • Popular Islam-involved in everyday aspects of life • Afghanistan consists of mostly Muslims so their religion is Islam • Government doesn’t support strong political parties • Religious schools teach children about Allah and the Qur’an

  10. Islamic Terms • Monotheistic religion-belief in only one god • Allah-the god that is worshipped • Qur’an-sacred text that is interpreted by Muhammad • Hajj-journey to Mecca(5th Pillar of Islam)
