  1. Using the Big6 Information Skills: Animal Classification Research Project

  2. Task #1: Define the Task What needs to be done? When does it need to be done? Where will it be done?

  3. Task #1: Define the Task What needs to be done? Each student will be assigned one class of animals (insect, mammal, reptile, amphibian, fishor bird). You will write an animal classification report that lists the characteristics of that class of animals. You will need to describe its distinctive features. Features to include are: warm or cold blooded, type of skin/body covering, how it breathes, and how it reproduces. You will also need to give at least two examples of animals that fit that classification and provide at least two interesting facts. The finished report will be typed in Microsoft Word.

  5. Task #1: Define the Task Where will it be done? You will be given time to complete your project in both the library and computer lab over the next four weeks. If more time is needed, you will need to work on it at home.

  8. Task #3: Location and Access Where can I get these resources? Resources are located in the library and the computer lab. To find information in books be sure to use the table of contents and index. Use keywords to find appropriate websites.

  9. Task #4: Use of Information • View your source (Read, watch or listen) • Take notes using a data form. Paraphrase the text. Use your own words. • Cite your sources on the data form.

  11. Task # 5: Synthesis • Organize your information and create a rough draft. Remember to use your own words. • Once the rough draft is done, edit and revise it. Next create your finished copy. Be sure to include your sources. • Type your finished copy

  12. Task 6: Evaluation • Use the rubric provided to check your work. • Make any necessary changes. • Then complete the rubric to assess your work.
