  1. Explorer Project Miss Antonelli Grade 5 Social Studies

  2. Research Use loose leaf to gather information about your explorer. Notes should be in your own words and not in complete sentences. Be sure to cut and paste websites into a word document in order to create a Works Cited page/slide. 4. Use slide 7 to organize your facts.

  3. Map Requirements Provide a map that shows your explorer’s most famous route. This should be included in your book or power point. Include: Starting Point Destination Countries Red Line Showing the Route Key/Legend Compass Rose Be creative with your map depending on the explorer you chose!

  4. Project Choices First Choice Power Point Must contain: 1. Introductory Slide 2. All required content about your explorer. (See slide 7for more information) 3. Graphics (photos, timelines, maps, charts) need to be included on each slide. Pick the best graphic to fit your information. 4. Slide for map of most famous route. (See slide 3 for more information) 5. Works Consulted Slide 6. Conclusion Slide Second Choice Book Must contain: 1. Introductory Page 2. All required content about your explorer.   6. Wax Museum Speech Requirements Time: 1-2 minutes tops! Speak from the 1st person (“My Name is Henry Hudson”.) Dress in costume (props are allowed too…no weapons!) Must include an introduction and a conclusion. Facts must be in chronological order. Speech must be memorized! A typed copy of your speech must be turned into me! 8. Practice, practice, and then practice some more!

  7. Content • Explorer’s Life: When and where was the explorer born? When and where did the explorer die? Were the parents wealthy or poor? Did other interesting things happen during the life of this explorer? Did the explorer publish autobiographical information? • When and Where: Give the major date(s) of the exploration. When did the expedition start and where did it begin? List major events that occurred during the trip. When and where did the trip end? • More on the Trip: Describe the vehicle(s) used in his/her most famous exploration (and other supplies). Did other people accompany the explorer? Did something interesting happen during the trip? • Who Sent the Explorer:Was the explorer sent/funded by a king/queen, a president, a private group, or was the explorer self-funded? • The Importance of the Exploration: Why was this exploration important? What contribution did it make • to the world? Also, include any other interesting facts you learned through your research!

  8. Mark Your Calendars! Wax Museum Friday, May 3rd 11:00 – 11:45 Sofia Adams through and including Thomas McGovern 2:00 – 2:45 Jason Mela through Tatiana Fern Typed speeches are due no later than April 26th . You may hand it in early! Start working on your costume!
