North West London – Mental Health Nursing A 11.0% undersupply is predicted in 2018/19. Indicates year in which, in general, alterations to commissions in 2014/15 will have an effect on the workforce. Rationale for decision • An undersupply has been forecast over the next five years. • It was agreed that increasing commissioning numbers would not be the best way to meet the needs of the profession. Mental health nurse education and employment of newly qualified staff have seen quality issues in recent years, and a quality improvement programme was undertaken to try to address this in 2013. • The aim of the programme was to improve the quality and employability of newly qualified mental health nurses, thus improving uptake rates from education. • HENWL are working in partnership with service providers to refresh education commissioning contracts for mental health nursing in NWL with a view to further improving quality and employability. • Factors leading to final demand and supply figures • The senior stakeholder group did not make any changes to the base assumptions of the aggregated NWL demand and supply forecast data.
