In the Autumn Quarter 2013, I focused on fabricating patterned and flat scaffolds, with a significant step being the priming of my own glass substrates. Some scaffolds have been utilized in preliminary experiments by Cameron on Monolayers and Patterns. We explored the effects of RGD peptides versus fibronectin on cardiomyocyte aggregation, resulting in imaging outcomes. Future work includes analyzing different cell phenotypes and imaging nanoislands seeded with Cardiomyocyte-derived Vascular Progenitors (CVPs) after fixation and staining on specified patterns.

Fabrication • I began with fabricating patterned and flat scaffolds, priming my own glass soon after • Some of the scaffolds that I have made are now being used in a preliminary experiment of Cameron’s
Monolayers on Patterns and Flats • Some preliminary experiments for the effects on aggregation of using an RGD peptide rather than fibronectin for cardiomyocytes have been imaged Fibronectin coated 800 1:1 pattern Peptide-coated 800 1:1 pattern
Future • Different cell phenotypes seem to be present • Nanoislands seeded with CVPs will be imaged after fixing and staining CVP cells on Pattern 11, Island 1
