  1. Kinetic Energy Harvesting Weekly Meeting 6 October 23rd, 2013

  2. Last Time • PDR • Amherst bike shop visit • Cap self discharge test • 2.6V to 1.8V (800mV) in 60 hours • No longer a concern • Cornell Cup • Wild Card Option • Intel Atom processor October 22, 2013

  3. Motor Generator • Arrived finally • 2500 RPM = 12.8 V (open circuit) • Lower than quoted • 2500 RPM = 12.0 V (220 ohm load) • Better than expected • Lower RPM and better diodes? • 1.9A short circuit at 2500RPM October 22, 2013

  4. Concerns • TA: Generator back EMF • Force to turn shaft multiplies by gear ratio • Motor power vs force optimization problem • Bike gear prototype may not be useful • Only needed to determine optimal gear ratio • Can be achieved with RPM meter and drill • $14 on Amazon • Better off building one configuration only October 22, 2013

  5. RPM Meter • http://www.amazon.com/professional-tachometer-Non-contact-revolutions-Measurement/dp/B00DGLU1YK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382482344&sr=8-2&keywords=rpm+meter • 2.5 RPM to 100KRPM range • No contact needed • Reflective strip on generator • Accurate to 0.05% • Can help determine ratio before moving forward October 22, 2013

  6. Tasks • ECE webpage creation • Presentation in 2 weeks • Benchside meetings coming (4-5pm Thurs) • describe individual MDR deliverables • progress to date • general project idea • Peer review summary • Discuss new prototyping ideas October 22, 2013
