  2. Whilst we are increasingly conscious about our sexual health as a society, it is always important to be vigilant. This is rarely more essential than when dealing with chlamydia, the most commonly-diagnosed STI in the modern world and one that often goes untreated due to its absence of easily-recognizable symptoms. Young people aged below 25 are the most at risk of contracting chlamydia, a bacterial infection that can lay dormant in the cervix, urethra, vagina, anus or throat. Any kind of sexual contact – be it vaginal, anal or oral – with somebody carrying the virus, can infect a sexual partner via a transfer of sperm or similar fluids, while infected pregnant women can also pass it on to their children upon birth. Chlamydia is a particularly dangerous STI as the symptoms and side effects are frequently invisible, or easily confused with other medical ailments such as a urinary tract infection. In men, chlamydia can be identified by a burning sensation when urinating, a swelling in the genitals or a thin, transparent penile discharge. Women, meanwhile, may experience any or all of the above, in addition to a heavier bleed during their period, or even unprompted vaginal bleeding between cycles or after sexual intercourse. These symptoms are not universal, however; if you are in any doubt as to your sexual health, you should seek a test at your earliest convenience. This is particularly essential with regard to chlamydia, as if left untreated this virus can cause infertility. As a result, if you are diagnosed you should notify any sexual partners you have had over the past six months.

  3. Testing for chlamydia at a sexual health clinic (also known as a GUM clinic) could take one of two forms; by providing a urine sample or by taking a swab sample from the potentially infected area such as the vagina, anus or mouth. Chlamydia self-test kits are largely free of charge to anybody under the age of 25 from local pharmacies or doctor’s surgeries, and it is strongly recommended that a test be undertaken at least once annually, or whenever undergoing a change of sexual partner. To find your closest NHS-sponsored sexual health clinic you can just enter your details into this handy search engine, or if you are particularly nervous about the results, many private clinics will offer confidential results within 24 hours for a fee. A free chlamydia test will usually take a week or ten days to return results. Of course, nobody welcomes the idea of an appointment at a GUM clinic due to the potential embarrassment of being spotted, or for fear of a partner reactingpoorly to you taking such precautions. TESTD™ offer the opportunity to purchase a chlamydia test in your own home for just £24, which can be subtly undertaken and returned the same day. You'll receive everything that you need to complete the screening through the post in an unmarked envelope, alongside a freepost envelope in which you will be asked to return a urine sample. A medical professional will examine this sample for you, and an SMS message will be sent to you with the results as soon as possible – typically after 24 hours. If you test positive for chlamydia, speak to TESTD, will advise you on the next steps to take. Help for treating chlamydia is easy to obtain with discretion. Be aware that whilst this can be remedied by a one-time treatment, it will not immunise you against potentially catching the virus again in the future. There is nothing to gain by taking a chance on your sexual health, and so much to lose – especially where chlamydia is concerned. Get yourself checked and set your mind at rest today. who
