Understanding Inference: Unveiling Meaning in Stories

Inference is a crucial reading skill that encourages deeper engagement with stories. When authors choose not to reveal everything directly, they invite readers to make inferences—educated guesses about the story's meaning based on clues and the characters’ actions and dialogue. This approach enhances comprehension and encourages critical thinking. Developing the ability to infer allows readers to uncover layers of meaning and connect more deeply with the narrative, enriching their overall reading experience.
