Megatrends Shaping CM Sphere • The demand for CM talent exceeds the supply. • Has been the case since early 2000’s. • Wars (2003-present), natural/unnatural disasters (Katrina, Rita, oil spill), economic recovery investment (2008-present) drove up government spending. • Baby boom generation transition. • Bathtub effect: gap in mid-career talent. • No ‘front door’ – no ready stream of prepared talent to tap. Takes longer to get entry person up to speed. • Increased training budgets – recognition of human capital problems in 2008. • Proliferation of intern programs to accelerate development.

  4. Megatrends Shaping CM Sphere 2. The people doing CM work are defining ‘career’ differently. • Driven by generational expectations, globalism, and technology. • From path/ladder/track to web/net: non-linear, multi-dimensional. • Moving between ‘professions’ vs. ‘jobs’. • Redefining retirement: not exiting, just taking on different roles. • Redefining relationships (mentoring). • Mobile (geographically, interpersonally and economically).
