  1. Bellwork – April 30 • Write the following quote. • “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” • What do you think this means?

  2. German Laws between 1933-1942

  3. April 1933 • One day boycott of all Jewish businesses. • Jews with government jobs forced to retire.

  4. May 1933 • Books published by Jews or written about Jews are burned in public. • Jews forced out of armed services.

  5. 1935 • Jews are no longer German citizens. • Jews cannot display German flags. • Jews may not marry or have any relationship with a German.

  6. 1936 • All non-Jewish children are required to join the Hitler Youth.

  7. Quote from Hitler "The weak must be chiseled away. I want young men and women who can suffer pain. A young German must be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as steel."

  13. 1938 Continued • Newly born Jewish children are to be named from an approved list of names. • cannot own or bear arms. • cannot attend German schools. • cannot have a drivers license.

  14. 1939 • All Jews must add Sarah or Israel to their names. • Must give up all their gold, platinum, silver, pearls, or precious stones.

  15. 1939 Continued • Jewish curfew set at 9 pm. • Jews must hand in all radios. • Jewish food rations reduced. • No rice or cocoa allowed and less meat and butter.

  16. 1940 • Jews cannot buy clothes or shoes. • Jews cannot have phones.

  17. 1941 • Must wear the Jewish star. • May not leave Germany. • Jews get no sick pay, vacation with pay or overtime. • Jews cannot use public phones.

  18. 1942 • Must hand in wool or fur clothes • Cannot use public transportation • Cannot have pets • Hand in electrical appliances, typewriters and bicycles

  19. 1942 Continued • All Jewish schools are closed. • Jews get no meat, eggs, wheat products, or milk. • Jews cannot buy books.

  20. Homework • Pick 3 laws from the notes and give your opinion about each one.
